🔮 Podcast Predictions for 2021

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

The year is coming to a close and we’ve certainly all had a tough one. Hopefully, you’ve learned something about yourself that you can put to use when setting your goals for the new year. Travis remains optimistic that 2021 is going to be a great one! To get ready, he just pulled out a Pod Decks card that reads “make some predictions about things that will happen in your industry in 2021”.

In this episode, Travis discusses his New Year podcasting predictions, which include:

  • The recent influx of advertising sponsorship in podcasting lately likely will continue because podcasts are getting so many ears. If you haven’t started a podcast yet, it’s a great time to take advantage of this wave!
  • The world will slowly reopen in 2021, which will likely reduce the number of people who started podcasts during the pandemic that are able to continue with them. If you can hang in there, you’ll have less competition.
  • The Clubhouse App is quickly growing in popularity and is a good way to build community -Facebook or Instagram might come up with “copycat” audio features.
  • Video will continue to be important for podcasters. Being on camera can take some getting used to, but you don’t need any fancy equipment. If you record snippets of your podcasts on video, people will be able to relate to you more quickly and you’ll see a higher conversion rate.

Memorable Quotes:

  • “Don’t overwhelm yourself with having to get a bunch of gear. You have as much computing power in your pocket right now as they did for the Apollo 11 space mission.”
  • “Give your people a place to hang out.”
  • “If people can see you...there’s something to connect to that’s bigger.”

Make some predictions about yourindustry? I pulled this card from the pod dect episode deck and today I'mgoing to make my predictions about what's going to happen in two thousandand twenty one for podcasting. So I'm recording this episode on mybeautiful iphone Eleven, and this is part of my casual Friday. Push of I get inspired a lot to record episodes, but I'm not always near my gear or I'm not always near my microphone, and Iwant to reinforce something to you. You don't need to record every episodefrom your microphone. If you feel inspired, you can pull out your voice.Memos Appor, I'm using the sure mode, ove plus APP right now to just recordan episode for you, because what I have to say, I think, is more valuable thanthe microphone itself. So if you're an existing podcaster try this out and ifyou haven't started, podcasting, don't overwhelm yourself with having to get abunch of gear. You have as much computing power in your pocket rightnow as they did for the Apollo Eleven...

Space Mission and the microphones beenpretty perfected by Apple. So you can get away with recording an episode inthe palm of your hand here. So my predictions for two thousand andtwenty one for podcasting. I think that two thousand and twenty one is going tobring a couple things. First of all, you've seen an influx in advertising inpodcasting. That's because giant corporations know that they always wantto pour money into where the people are now they've al. They have a lot ofoptions, they can do TV commercials and they can run ads and youtube videos, but they're pouring money into advertising into podcasters, whichis amazing. That means that that's where the people are, that means that'swhere the ears are and if they're investing it's a good sign for us aspodcasters, because that's where people are so podcasting has become in twothousand and twenty...

...more adaptable, more accepted by the worldright as a medium of a way to consume content. So I predict that you will see way moreadvertising in podcasting and you'll see way more podcast host offeringadvertising in podcast, because these corporations have unlimited resourcesthat they are going to be pouring into this medium. So if you're already apodcaster of this is great news because that's where the people are and if youhaven't started a podcast, yet it's not too late. This is the time we are atthe beginning of a huge wave of you know even more podcast to come now, secondarily speaking of morepodcast to come. This has been a really good year for podcasting, becauseeveryone had to slow down and stop and figure out a new way to communicatewith their audience. PODCASTING is a really great way to do that. Earlier this year we hit a millionpodcast on apple podcast, but only...

...about two hundred. Fifty thousand ofthose had actually posted something in the last ninety days. Now I believe, I'm an optimist. Ibelieve that in two thousand and twenty one theworld will open back up. I think that the with the vaccines and all the stuff-that's going on that. We will slowly see a reopening of the United States and beyond, and what that's going to do is it's goingto take all the people that had started a podcast and it's going to reduce the number ofpeople that continue to do so. I think that probably maybe ten percent willmake it through because Podcastingis a lot of work. We've got a you know, pitch guests and book interviews and record the interviews and edit them andpromote that it's hard work but podcasting seems like an easy thing todo, and it can be easy if you have a system, but I think a lot of people aregoing to fall off. I think, even more than earlier this year, if there's onepoint, five million podcast they'll be...

...two million in two thousand and twentyone, and probably you know less than twenty five percent will still keepgoing. So if you need a system, I do have acourse that I've been helping podcasters develop a system for theirinterviews. It's called the interview, podcast blueprint, and if you want tocheck that out, you can get it at get dot interviews, secretcom. Basically, Iput together my entire system of how I pitch guests, how I book guests, how Irecord the episode edit. The episode promote the episode, it's the entiresystem, so, if you're looking for a system thatjust want to let you know that that exists all right. So. Thirdly, if that's evena word, not sure, I think that APPS, like so club,Houseis the rage right now, it's. I think. The reason that it's really sopopular is because it's a new social media platform and it's invite only soyou have to either get invited to this thing or you have to get on a weightlist and someone has to nominate you,...

...which is a really cool way to do it.That way, I's just not a flood gate, opening and everybody's now onclubhouse, it's it creates some exclusivity and there's something to belearned from that right. Not they don't want everybody on their APP right nowand there's a lesson in that for podcasters, like you, shouldn't want every single person in the world to listen, t yourpodcast, but the whole premise of club house. Ifyou don't know what it is, is that there's just basically rooms where youcan start an audio conversation and you go into this room and it's all audioand I think for podcasters. This is going to be a huge way to instilcommunity into your show. So for me you know my whole goal is to help you guysthe podcasters overcome obstacles that keep you from podcasting. I want you togrow. I want you to live the podcasting life of your dream, so I'll use it togo on and host little classes and virtual. You know seminars and try togive value through that, but you know...

...for other podcasters. You may have acomedy show or you may have a review show you'll be able to do all kinds ofthings like inviting people to your private community on Club House andputting on maybe an after show or bonus content where people can gofurther with you. So I think it's Goingnao be really cool and I expectthat the way facebook and Instagram- and you know they behave- is theytypically steal the best things from the other social media platforms andNSTALL them on their own platform. So I'm imagining that you'll see something. You know a slap back come from facebookor instagram with some type ofsimilar concept, but the good news is I that people are used to audio now right,we're all used to audio, and you could I mean in theory, you could ook yourphone up, the blue tooth on your roadcaster pro and broadcast from yourmicrophone, so you could still make it sound, really great if you're an audiofile, so I think you're going to see that asas a way to...

...increase your audience increase yourcommunity remember community is everything you need to give your yourpeople, your listeners, a place to hang out so don't discount, creating some type ofname for the gang of your podcast or the group of your podcast, or you know, give your people a place tohang out it's. It could be a facebook group. It could just be clubhouse butfigure that out. I think that will go a long way for you. So I think you'll see a couple copy cats of clubhouse, butyour clubhouse is going to be a focus, I think for podcasters in two thousandand twenty one and then finally I've been saying thisfor a little while, but I do think that video is important forpodcasters we've been, you know using audiograms and we're using static post to promot our podcast, butI think that there's going to be something that breaks certain podcast through, whichis video, so you don't really have any excusesbecause the phone you have in your hand,...

...has a video camera on it, and I mean I can even record for forkvideo off of my phone, so it shouldn't be an issue of like I need to get acamera. I need this and that but videos hard, I mean it took me probably ninemonths to get comfortable just staring into a lens talking, because it's weird, you know it's Ot, it's not a normal thing to do so. It takes some practice, but I think if you just set up your phoneand record yourself podcasting, you could always find like one clip thatyou could use on social media to promote your show, and I think there'ssomething to it where if people can see you, they typically see something inyou that they see in themselves whether that be the hat you're wearing or yourdog sitting. In the background right, there's something to connect to that'sthat's bigger than just like: Hey, there's an audiogram or hey, here's astatic post right. So I challenge you to set up your phone and film yourselfrecording your next podcast and...

...you don't have to edit the whole thing. You just need to find like that. One Golden Nugget, just one minute of theshow where you're talking that you think will create that spark forwhoever's watching to go press the button and go listen to your show. Now,if you need a formula for what to post on social media to promote yourepisodes, I just postid on Instagram a formula: It's V plus, F Equalsl, and so,if you go ahead over to my instagram account it's one of the latest posts-and I basically walk you through that formula and how to post great captions for your episode.Instead of just check out my new episodes, you're going to want to makesure you check that out. But if you combine that with video, I think thatyou would see a huge influx in new listeners or a better conversion rate. You know everything we do now. How is about conversion rates? Did they buy?Did they click? Did they did they look...

...at it and that's a really great way to show people who you are because, let'sbe honest, you're the talent you're, the host you're, the personality of thepodcast by putting yourself out there on video it's more magnetic, and Idefinitely think that you should show people behind the scenes and showpeople who you are. What you look like and convert those people into listenersso consider setting up your phone and filming your next podcast. So those aremy four predictions for two thousand and twenty one. I think it's going tobe a great year. I think that we have endured a really tough year as humanbeings, and hopefully you learn something about yourself. I know I have, and I can't wait to go to podfast this year and connect with people and haveeveryone be healthy and being able to connect on a human level, but I thinkfor podcasters. You know this wave is just you know it's just building up, ithasn't even fully formed and...

...if you're podcasting you're in theright place. So I will see you guys in two thousandand twenty one be well set. Some goals break them down in a little chunks. Howyou can hit them and hit me up along the way DMM on instagram join myfacebook cur it's the podcast builter club. I've got a great community ofpodcasters that were all lifting each other up and we're really workingtogether to help everybody grow their show and live the life of their dreams. So that being said, keep it casualeverybody. If you feel inspired, pull out your phone Recordang episode andI'll see you in two thousand and twenty one.
