If you're feeling overwhelmed with your podcast, this episode is for you. If you've ever felt overwhelmed being a creator, it's actually a good thing. It's because you're trying new things, you'reexperimenting, you're working hard, but you've hit a point of anxiety that couldpotentially be stopping you from making your best work. Overwhelm is like this creaturethat grabs us in a bear hug and squeezes us so that we feel uncomfortableand we don't think that we can continue on. So let me share aquote with you, one of my favorite quotes. When things stop adding up, start subtracting. This quote is simply to remove things get back to basics. In your creation. As a creator, as a podcaster, you're expected todo so much. It isn't just setting up the MIC and talking. It's planning and editing and getting guests and...

Social Media and scaling and Growth andmore downloads and more platforms, and there's a new platform born every single daythat we think we need to be a part of. We're potentially missing outand these things cause overwhelm. So consider looking at all the things you're doingand parking some of them for a little while, get back to basics,go bare bones. What does it take for me to continue on and notfeel the stress and anxiety and overwhelm the trying my hardest as a podcaster iscausing me? Because when you create in an overwhelmed mindset, you're not makingyour best work, you're not having fun, you're part of the machine and themachine wants more and more and more.

And if your social media tasks takeyou a long time and you're struggling to find guests and you're just notfeeling it, that comes through the speakers into your listener's ears and they canhear it now. I also want you to think about this. Create whenyou can. We don't always feel inspired and sometimes you have to create whenyou're not inspired. That's why I created pod decks, is for people tobe able to spontaneously create without having to put too much thought into it.I see a lot of people apologizing for missing an episode, for taking abreak, and you don't owe anybody anything unless you've got somebody writing you wouldcheck for this podcast. You should create when you can UN apologetically. Nowyou also don't need to sweat the small stuff. Likes, downloads, allthese arbitrary numbers. For some reason we...

...keep looking and we hope that theresult is different. Numbers are going to be relative to the time you've spent, how long you've been podcasting, how many episodes you've released, but it'snot a time stamp of you're worth at that moment. And so many ofus put our worth into that number, our effort into that number, whetherit's low it's high, we let it define us as creators. It's justa number and a lot of podcasters think they should be further ahead, theyshould be scaling, they should be getting more engagement, they should be fartheralong their journey. And should is a dangerous word, because what you're doingis you're putting an internal pressure on yourself...

...that no one else is putting onyou. Instead of saying should say I'd like to have more listeners. Butshould is part of expectations and anytime you set expectations you're likely to be disappointed. So can you do this without expectations? Are you just doing it for thedownloads? Probably not. So why do we keep looking at that numberas our value in the world? It's pretty confusing. So don't see whatthese small items don't let them define you. If you're feeling overwhelmed, simply startremoving things from your workflow. Get back to bare bones, to whereyou feel good creating, where you don't feel the pressure of creating, youdon't feel like you're behind the eight ball. I've never, ever, ever, been upset because a podcast didn't release.

A podcast release is just a newopportunity for me to listen to contact, but I've never tapped my footwaiting gettingupset that a podcast episode didn't release. So this is going to be aphilosophy that I hope you take into your creation process, whether you're makingvideos, podcasts, art, music, because feeling overwhelmed in podcasting is notgoing to get you anywhere. You've just stacked the deck against yourself. SoI hope this hits home with you. I hope you know that you havepermission to stop doing things that are causing you pain anxiety, that are settingyou create when you can and subtract what's...

...not working.
